Some weeks the bounty is plentiful, others can be a struggle. Shared risk is what it is like to be part of the farm. These farms raise food that is good for the soil, good for biodiversity and good for the community.
By definition, CSAs are composed of “a community of individuals who pledge support to a farm operation so that the farmland becomes the community’s farm, with the growers and consumers becoming partners, providing mutual support and sharing the risks and benefits of food production. ”
Essentially you are shareholders pledging a shared cost of the farms’ operations. Each one of your individual investments yields a share of farm crops, including a closer connection to freshly picked organic and sustainable produce that hasn’t traveled thousands of miles nor has it been sitting on grocery shelves for days and weeks.
As a shareholder, you are demonstrating respect for the earth by taking responsibility for sustainable farming practices, energy efficinet production and distribution while also contributors to paying farmers decent fair wages, and elevating environmental consciousness.
Starting our version of CSA has allowed us to unleash biological and social forces that we didn’t expect to grow so quickly. We appreciate everyone’s dedication and commitment to this program and ultimately to the farms you are supporting. In the new year we will be adding local purveyors and artisan producers to the program to reach out further into the community and to provide an array of farm oriented products to you outside of produce. The whole farm….

Kind of random! A former employee of ours happened upon this display during December Nights at Balboa Park last weekend, while all the museums were free to the public. We’re part of the traveling LEGO Train Exhibit in the San Diego Railroad Museum, orchestrated by the Southern California LEGO TRAIN CLUB. I had to go down and see it in person and take more photos!
I’m still not sure why or how we came to be a part of this but it sure is awesome! It could be because we are a major part of the Christmas Train ( http://www.christmastrain.org), but it’s pretty cool that we have our own LEGO produce stand! We’re quite honored!
If you want to check out this really cool display, it runs Nov 24th- Jan 15th & is $7 to enter, but well worth it 😉 http://www.sdmrm.org/
